According to Fife Today, the number of confirmed cases in Scotland resulting from the recent Edinburgh outbreak has climbed to seven. Six patients are in critical care, following contraction of Legionnaires’ disease, and the seventh patient has recovered smoothly and was recently sent home. Another 13 possible cases are under investigation, making it likely that the number of confirmed Legionnaires’ disease cases will continue to rise. Samples have been taken from four cooling towers in south west Edinburgh to help determine the source of the bacteria, and maintenance workers have been advised to chemically treat the water in their cooling towers to curb the growth of bacteria.
More updates on this outbreak will follow.
