According to the Columbus Dispatch, two more people who contracted Legionnaires’ disease at the Wesley Ridge Retirement Community have died, bringing the total number of deaths to four. There have now been 35 people sickened in the outbreak, making this the largest Legionnaires’ disease outbreak “in recent memory”.
CDC test results show that the Legionella bacteria is in various locations throughout the facility, and officials are still trying to figure out exactly how people have been infected. Residents are continuing to drink only bottled water, and are showering with filtering shower heads that are CDC-approved. Officials have decided that it is in the residents’ best interest to put precautions in place at the facility rather than moving the residents to another facility.
