Water restrictions are currently in place at Hanover Square Apartments in Otterbein after a resident contracted Legionnaires’ disease in mid-July. The resident lived in the 1 West Conway Street tower and is the only known case.
Health Department spokesman Michael Schwartzberg said that the city is in the process of testing the water at the apartment complex, but did not provide any further information about the patient.
According to Schwartzberg, water restrictions are not required with one case of Legionnaires’ disease, but was imposed anyway by the building manager.
Schwartzberg further said that there have been 27 reported cases so far this year in Baltimore, and that there were 30 reported Legionnaires’s disease cases last year.
Test results from samples taken of the building’s water are pending.
