Northwest Alabama is experiencing a rise in Legionnaires’ disease cases causing local health officials to investigate a potential Legionella outbreak.  According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, ten cases have been reported so far this year and there are five more possible cases; this area typically averages four cases a year.  Two individuals who contracted Legionnaires’ disease were reported to the Lauderdale County Health Department in early October.  The health department is working with physicians and hospitals to investigate the source of the possible outbreak.
