The Dayton Daily News is reporting that last Friday the state Department of Health in Ohio has confirmed one death associated with the February 2011 outbreak of Legionnaires’ at Miami Valley Hospital.
According to the Dayton Daily News, the department declined to identify the deceased, however a lawsuit filed this month against the hospital identified Charles O. Preston, 94, of Dayton, as a hospital patient whose death certificate lists Legionnaires’ disease as the cause of death. Preston died on March 20, 2011.
Health department spokeswoman Tessie Pollock, as quoted by the Dayton Daily News, says “the state health department conducts its own investigation to determine a cause of death and does not rely on death certificates.” It was not immediately clear when the department learned of the Legionnaires’ death associated with the outbreak.
Updates will be posted as they become available.
