Building owners throughout New York City have registered their cooling towers according to a recently passed law requiring registration and maintenance plans for cooling towers.  A total of nearly 5,000 towers have been registered in light of the Legionnaires’ disease in the South Bronx that began in July which sickened over 120 individuals and resulted in 12 deaths.

According to Alexander Schnell with the Department of Buildings, 4,991 towers were registered into the agency’s database.
