Since June 1, 2013, 20 cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been confirmed in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, including 14 cases in the city of Milwaukee, according to news sources. The Milwaukee Health Department is investigating the illnesses and attempting to find a common source. According to Paul Biedrzycki of the Milwaukee Health Department, around a half-dozen of the cases appear to be associated with the same geographic location. At this time, no further details about this area are available, or information on potential sources of the rest of the illnesses. There have been no deaths thus far associated with this outbreak, although the investigation in ongoing as officials seek to find and decontaminate the source to prevent further illnesses.
