Four Legionnaires’ diseases cases have been confirmed by the Wilson County Health Department in North Carolina at a Wilson County facility. Two more cases associated with Wilson Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Services are also being tested. According to Peggy Bulluck, the staff at the nursing facility is working with the Wilson County Health Department as well as the CDC to monitor and prevent the further instances of illness.
Legionnaires’ disease is a waterborne illness which occurs from bacteria that result from improperly maintained water systems.
The four individuals confirmed to have Legionnaires’ disease are currently recovering, and Joyce Wetherington, the health department spokeswoman, said that water samples have been taken for testing.
