Legionella bacteria were discovered at the Southeastern Veterans’ Center (SEVC) in Spring City, PA during routine testing on September 24.
No cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been reported, but Rohan Blackwood, commandant at SEVC said “We are closely monitoring our residents and staff for any Legionella-related symptoms while we begin the process of disinfecting the water treatment system.”
“We are taking aggressive steps to rectify the situation in the next 24 hours,” continued Blackwood. “The safety and well-being of the people that live and work here every day is our number one priority.”
Faucets, sinks, and showers were not available through September 26, and residents of SEVC were required to use bottled drinking water and bath-in-bag systems for bathing. The water system is to be retested tomorrow, September 29.
