ManorCare Health Services in Anderson, IN has tested positive for Legionella bacteria in one of the two water systems at the health facility.
It is not known, however, whether or not any illnesses occurred as a result of the bacteria’s presence. According to Jennifer O’Malley, director of public affairs of the Indiana State Department of Health, confidentiality laws prohibit the discussion of numbers of illnesses if there are fewer than five.
O’Malley did say in an email, though that “ManorCare has brought in a professional company to treat the affected water system and has enlisted a consultant to monitor the process.” She went on to explain that the two water systems at ManorCare were separate systems and that “the second water system tested negative.” The water system that tested positive was shut down and is being remediated.
