Legionella bacteria were discovered at the VA North Texas hospital in Bonham, TX. Samples taken at the community living center at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center tested positive for the bacteria during its routine quarterly testing.
According to a spokesman from the VA North Texas last Friday, the facility is currently treating two patients who have Legionnaires’ disease, but neither of the patients contracted it at the VA.
Following the positive test results, VA staff were put on heightened awareness for any patients exhibiting symptoms consistent with Legionnaires’ disease.
