According to VA officials, low levels of Legionella bacteria have been found at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Beth Brown, the Medical Center Director, said that no patients have become ill with Legionnaires’ disease, a potentially fatal pneumonia. No other updates were provided.
VA Medical Centers in Pennsylvania and Connecticut have also detected low levels of Legionella in their systems in recent months as well. Overall, it appears that the VA System has been taking greater efforts to test the water systems and remediate before any patients become ill.
One Legionnaires’ disease case was, however, detected late last month at the Waco VA Medical Center. There have been no updates since the case occurred, but remediation began several days after the case was confirmed.
