The Hong Kong Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health began investigating its 12th case of Legionnaires’ disease so far in 2015 earlier this week.
The patient is a 55-year-old man with pre-existing health conditions. He exhibited symptoms of shortness of breath around May 18 and then was admitted to the Accident and Emergency Department of Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) on May 21. His condition deteriorated after admittance and was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) and was in critical condition as of May 27.
In 2014 and 2013, Hong Kong had 41 and 28 reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease respectively.
