According to press reports, Miami Valley Hospital has confirmed its 10th case of Legionnaires’ disease, as well as a case of Pontiac fever, which is a less virulent  infection caused by a similar form of Legionella bacteria.  This  brings the total number of cases to 11 at the hospital. A patient at the hospital died, but the hospital said Legionnaires’ disease was not the cause of death, even though the hospital would not say whether Legionnaires’ disease was a contributing factor in the patient’s death. Miami Valley Hospital is currently waiting for test results  that could indicate whether the hospital’s new 12-story addition’s water system was the source of the outbreak.
