Lehman High School Bronx

The number of people who became ill in the second Legionnaires’ disease outbreak this year in the Bronx has risen to ten.

The first case in this outbreak was reported on September 21.  Nine of the ten were hospitalized for their illness, and one was treated and released on the same day.

Testing on 35 cooling towers occurred this past weekend in the Morris Park area.  Seven sites tested positive for Legionella bacteria and were ordered by the city to immediately begin disinfection and remediation.

Lehman High School is one site that tested positive.  City crews worked Tuesday to disinfect the affected parts of the school.

No fatalities have been reported.
